A practical walking route through Verona’s old town
Verona Old Town Walking Route: Stops, Distance & Timing

This route links the classic sights in Verona’s centre and takes half a day, or longer if you visit indoors. Queues, entrance rules and breaks affect timing more than the short distances between squares.

Piazza Bra and the Arena

Begin in Piazza Bra and walk around the outside of the Arena. If you have a ticket, include time for entry and security. The square is a natural place to pause before continuing towards the shopping streets.

Via Mazzini and the central squares

Follow Via Mazzini to Piazza delle Erbe, then continue to Piazza dei Signori and the Scaliger Tombs. Look for the mix of medieval buildings, market details and quieter courtyards just off the main route.

Ponte Pietra and the Adige

Walk towards the river and cross Ponte Pietra for a view back towards the centre. The Roman Theatre is nearby, and the Veronetta side offers a quieter change of pace. Allow extra time if you plan to climb to a viewpoint.

A short or extended version

For a short walk, stay between Piazza Bra and Piazza delle Erbe. To extend it, add Ponte Pietra, the Roman Theatre or a museum. Choose the extra stop according to the day’s opening hours and your pace.

A local tip

Cross Ponte Pietra when the light is softer and leave time to stop along the river; the walk is better without rushing.
